Hello KAREN ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you, CLIFF, for introducing KAREN to this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.

About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.

Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):

" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "

It's good to know that Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon and Marco Hietala continued their own careers, solo or with other bands, after their departures from Nightwish.

For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the Posts tab in my main YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/posts
🤘

Storytime and Romanticide would be next from this concert, then hit the rest of the songs in the concert from Wacken. Then hit the different songs from Wembley. Same with Tampere. Shoemaker from Pinkpop. And High Hopes. Phantom of the Opera live at Ziggo Dome is also amazing. But it's Nightwish. Do the live shows, and you can't truly go wrong. They don't miss. And Floor Jansen is the Valkyrie singing here. And yes, I would lay my sword at her feet and let her sing me to Valhalla. Tuomas, the keybosrdist writes the music. Floor is Dutch, and the rest of them are Finnish.

You need to see Floor Jansen & Henk Poort doing Phantom of the Opera during the Dutch Show Beste Zangers. It will blow your mind!!

Nightwish have been described as a wizard, a viking, a pirate, an elf and a valkyrie.

First listen to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes"... then listen to Nightwish's version... a tribute to Pink Floyd. I'd like to hear your opinions.
