Balidan Parmo Dharm - Indian PARA SF Ka Asli Power | w/ Lt Col Somdatta Mhaskar | TAMS 322

In this episode of The Awaara Musaafir Show, host Jayesh Gangan is joined by Lieutenant Colonel Somdatta Mhaskar, a veteran Indian Army Special Forces officer from the elite 2 PARA SF, for one of the most powerful conversations on military leadership, Special Forces operations, the Balidan spirit, counter-terrorism, and the realities of serving on India's most dangerous frontlines. Drawing from years of operational experience across Jammu & Kashmir, the North East, border deployments, and high-risk missions, Lt Col Somdatta offers an extraordinary perspective on the life, mindset, and responsibilities of an Indian Special Forces soldier. The conversation begins with Lt Col Somdatta explaining what truly makes 2 PARA SF one of India's most respected Special Forces units. He shares his journey from the Indian Military Academy to the Special Forces, revealing the demanding selection process, the significance of the Balidan Badge, and why serving in an elite volunteer unit requires far more than physical strength. He also discusses the values of discipline, sacrifice, teamwork, and mental resilience that define every Special Forces operator beyond the glamour often portrayed in films. The discussion then moves into the hidden realities of Special Forces missions, where Lt Col Somdatta explains how covert operations are planned, why intelligence, preparation, communication, and precision matter more than simply eliminating terrorists, and what actually happens during live combat. He also breaks down the difference between conventional warfare and Special Forces operations while sharing fascinating insights into counter-insurgency, room intervention tactics, surveillance, target selection, and the psychology required to operate deep behind enemy lines. The episode further explores India's security environment across Jammu & Kashmir and the North East, along with the challenges of terrorism, border operations, military decision-making, and the burden of leading soldiers into combat. Lt Col Somdatta speaks about brotherhood within the Special Forces, the emotional impact of losing fellow soldiers, the responsibility of command, and why mission success is measured not only by eliminating threats but by flawless planning, execution, and bringing every possible soldier home safely. Towards the end, Lt Col Somdatta reflects on the meaning of "Balidan Parmo Dharma," the mindset of those who voluntarily choose the toughest path, and the values that continue to guide Special Forces personnel throughout their careers. Filled with remarkable battlefield experiences, leadership lessons, and rare insights into India's elite military community, this episode offers an unforgettable look inside the world of the Indian Army's Special Forces and the extraordinary men who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation. 😎 Subscribe to The Awaara Musaafir Show for more fascinating journeys into the unknown.
