  Billy was my uncle, he’s the one who inspired me to join the army. Of course I could never equal the to what he’s done or his badassness but I certainly have tried and have kept the Waugh name in the military

  His autobiography, “Hunting the Jackal,” is a fascinating and fantastic book. I read it 15 years ago, and one of my favorite parts is a story where Billy recounts being at a former SF reunion I think in the 1990s. He stated that they are all there drinking and swapping war stories and this young woman shows up. Of course these guys ask her if she’s at the right place and she responded that her father was a Green Beret who had been killed in Vietnam and she had never known him. These men welcomed her as a comrade and shared everything they knew about her dad. At the end of the night there were speeches, and they invited this young woman to address the crowd of SF Operators. She said she was so grateful for all of them. Her whole life she had never really known her father, but through all of them, she finally felt like she knew him and what a wonderful man he was. <br>Billy wrote something along the lines of, here in this room full of over 100 of the roughest, toughest men in the world, you couldn’t find a dry eye. <br>Just one of my favorite parts of the book
