"A ton of powder" sounds like a lot until you figure out that it will be spent in 20 minutes of your army actively fighting.

The marquis de Lafayette had a wild history, the guy was all over major events

I grew up in this area. You can actually still see the cannonballs from the siege in the preserved buildings around the town. I recommend anyone interested in American History spend a few days visiting Jamestown, Wiliamsburg and Yorktown.

Fun fact: according to many eyewitnesses, the weather took near supernatural turns during the battle, with storms kicking up to stop the British from evacuating by sea, but then cleared as soon as the Brits stopped trying, and started up again when they loaded back onto their boats.

This went on several times. Washington stated it was divine intervention.

The naval aspects of these historic great battles and sieges are always glossed over. Whilst you did not go in to great detail, you offered more than most. Fine job.

Hi SandRhoman,

I am a Yorktown native. Congratulations on having the (so far) best video and map of this battle on YouTube.

It's poetic how the thumbnail outline of the forts is shaped similar to our beloved America.

crazy to think there were more French fighting than Americans at this battle.

I'm glad this video came out so soon after Gibraltar. As a yank my nation talks about Yorktown as a stunning victory that seems to come out of nowhere besides destiny. The French are mentioned maybe as the navy blocking access to the sea. The fact that the British leadership decided to save Gibraltar over Yorktown was never mentioned.

And I used to teach US history in VA, I partially blame myself, I spent so much effort learning about the South's different war experience I never asked WHY the British Navy couldn't break the seige, and what exactly the Spanish were up to besides financial support
