  While the &quot;drop bear&quot; may be a hoax to scare tourists, there was an animal in Australia&apos;s past that operated on a similar method. &nbsp;Thylacoleo , or the marsupial lion, was an apex predator that ambushed prey from the trees and whose wedge-shaped teeth could cut through bone. &nbsp;They lived from around ~500,000 to ~10,000 years ago, meaning the first indigenous Australians would have encountered them. &nbsp;And their closest living relative is the koala.

And, even aside from the Florida Man memes (which might be more valid than usual, since it&apos;s apparently considered endangered in Florida but unthreatened globally) means it has to contend with the ultimate enemy of any tree: the beaver.

  Lol, &apos;drop bears&apos; are a joke Aussies have been telling scaring tourists with for a long time. That said, koala&apos;s <i>can</i> be dangerous if provoked or if they&apos;re scared. They <b>do</b> have claws and teeth and my father saw a thing on TV a long time ago that said every year at least a few tourists learn what the inside of an Australian hospital is like because they tried to cuddle a wild one and it objected to being manhandled by a stranger.

  I LOVE the stories of the Drop Bear! They are just the greatest thing to ever come out of Australia! That chat kept the whole thing going right up until MorParz said &quot;Gotcha B!tch&quot; just made the whole thing even better!

  The good news is that you can survive a bite from a blue ring octopus, if you&apos;re with someone that knows you were bitten and knows CPR they can resuscitate you until the venom is worked out of your system. The bad news is that you&apos;re still paralyzed, and if they don&apos;t take the time to cover or eyes or close your eyelids then you&apos;re going to be stuck staring at the sun whilst they&apos;re performing CPR, and one bloke did go blind from this exact scenario.
