  I bet every one of those 'Mickey Mouse' opponents were thrilled to play Hikaru.  I hope he wins the championship and then tells FIDE to suck it and walk away an undefeated world champ.

  I think it is good that top players play in low rated tournaments. It is good for chess, and would be a dream come true for many a player to be paired with one of the worlds top players. Those low rated tournaments are full of fans, and what greater way to pander to the fan base than play against them in an official one on one classical game.

  I know its all relative but its very funny to call tournaments with an average rating of 2100 Mickey Mouse tournaments. That's a very solid player, would be one of if not the highest rated players at the majority of clubs.

  I played in the Iowa state championship and was the kid wearing the A87 sweatshirt in one of the photos.  I can promise you it was a huge thrill to meet hikaru and there would be nothing cooler then to see him become World Champion.

  I often disagree with Hikaru. I'm far from his biggest fan. But you gotta respect the way he calls out power in this case. Chess could be so much better without the goons at FIDE always doing their best to ruin a good time.

  Hikaru does care. You can read it on his face. I hope he learns how to stay in his flow state. If he does that, there's no stopping him.

  Congrats to FIDE for changing the rule. All local championship can now rest assured they have zero chance of ever having a Super GM play one of their tournaments the year leading up to World Championship Season.
