I kinda wish we got to see more of Grace Holloway. It's a shame her character is stuck in copyright limbo, even if Daphne Ashbrook has showed up in some recent Big Finish stuff. I'd like to believe if she was always available, they'd have already done some good stuff with her and the 8th Doctor.

I honestly don't think that Danny Pink would have worked as a Companion. He'd be basically just Rory mark 2 - support for the main (female) Companion and occasional realist to bring the Doctor down to earth.

 - "The Doctor's Daughter" is technically a multi-Doctor story.
- Lorna could have come from the Doctor's personal future. He didn't remember her because he hadn't met her yet.
- Osgood could have gone away with the Doctor and come back in the same moment she left.

Pex was the biggest missed opportunity. He would have been an excellent companion with a good growth arc.

Cass’s surname was created by Big Finish and used in the Day of the Doctor novelization written by Steven Moffat, him again to some degree canonizing expanded universe media.

I find Cass a great example of abbreviated writing. In the brief episode, we see her potential as a companion. She's brave, smart, and good in a crisis. She even has good chemistry with Paul McGann. We really want her to believe in The Doctor and unlock that door. She's the symbol that his old ways won't work in the Time War.

for a long time I thought River Song was going to turn out to be Jenny that was of course before they elaborated and showed their relationship was more romantic than platonic
