  One point of correction at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a2e8895U0s&amp;t=1143">19:03</a>: it&apos;s highly unlikely that the water-quenching step here is used to purposefully transform austenite into martensite. Large industrial components like this have such large cross-section area, which increases their thermal mass. Water-quenching here can only transform a thin layer of steel on the surface into martensite, while the bulk of the steel becomes either ferrite or banite upon cooling down. So the water-quenching here &quot;at best&quot; creates a surface-hardened steel ring. However, after machining, the hardened surface layer is removed, rendering the surface-hardening point irrelevant. So, you might ask what does the water-quench do then? I think the factory just use the water to make the part cool faster because it will take much longer time if it is cooled in air before reaching the temperature low enough for machining.
