  Little did  I know after playing this great game that it wasn't a story about rebellion or injustice, but the heart warming story of how satan saved christmas

  To me, the darkest thing about P5’s themes is that, like most JRPG’s, it represents the aspirations of young Japanese people, most of which they can never attain. Their society is culturally straight jacketed and, after high school, most people are made into cogs and pulleys, inserted into the machine, and perform as dutiful parts of their social system. That’s why so many of their games are set in high school. It’s the last time they remember experiencing freedom and happiness. It’s also why, in a culture where so many people live lonely, isolated lived, the power of friendship is a such a common theme in these games. Similarly with P5’s message regarding the power of individualism, which must be quite attractive to a culture of people rarely allowed to express it. I don’t want to overstate the point, speaking in generalities here, but in general, as someone who lived in Japan for years and loves Japanese people and culture, this observation has always made me feel a little sad.

  My personal favorite thing about the story is that Akechi and Ren are what the other could have been under different circumstances. They both had their lives ruined by the same person, both are seen as lesser by society, and both have every reason to hate the world and everyone in it. The difference is that while Akechi let that destroy and corrupt him, turning him into a vengeful soul with the world&apos;s biggest chip on his shoulder, Ren instead chose to believe in others and not only reached out, but touched the lives of many and helped lead a revolution against a corrupt system. But, he was smart enough to realize that he shouldn&apos;t be the one telling everyone what to do, he simply tore down the tyrant and give the people the flag of freedom to wave for themselves, telling them &quot;Whatever step you take next is yours to make.&quot; Ren and Goro were both pawns in another&apos;s game, one he rigged to prove that his way of seeing the world was right, but instead, Ren proved that while people are flawed, they&apos;re not beyond redemption and wish to be free. Ren Amamiya is what happens when life kicks you down but you decide to not only get up, but help others stand up as well, while Goro Akechi is what happens when life kicks you down but you decide to kick back and let it turn you into the very animal that destroyed you to begin with.

  It should be pointed out that Morgana&apos;s explosion wasn&apos;t just from the Phantom Thieves not praising him enough, it was from losing his own identity within the team. At the beginning of the game he does almost everything, he takes care of navigation, enemy analysis and serves as a frontline fighter. As new members of the team join they slowly replace him in all aspects, Makoto takes over the enemy analysis, Futaba takes over the navigation, and he even sees less time on the frontlines due to there being more competition for the spots. His insecurity comes from his position in the team slowly being eroded, eventually feeling that his only unique niche is &quot;driving them around in mementos&quot;. It&apos;s a lot deeper than just being upset that they weren&apos;t showing him enough attention.

  This is a damn near perfect analysis of the game&apos;s main story. I also didn&apos;t expect even the antags to get a thorough analysis. Bravo! I&apos;d love to see an analysis of the other games

  As a super fan of Persona, this is by far, the <i>best</i> analysis of Persona 5 I&apos;ve ever seen. &nbsp;I&apos;ve always been more interested in the lore aspect of Persona, but you nailed the themes and deeper meaning of this game. &nbsp;You made me want to pick it up and do another playthrough of Persona 5: Royal.

  An interesting aspect of the game is how Maruki&apos;s ideal reality does leave one person still unhappy: the doctor himself. His pursuit of making others happy is just as much empathy for others as it is burying and avoiding confronting his own pain.

  I don&apos;t know about you, but him being falsely accused of a crime he didn&apos;t commit, gives him a deep layer of depth. It makes me wonder what he life was like before the event. I haven&apos;t completed the game yet. I do like playing games where even the lead has an air of mystery that gets explored later on. So glad this came out on Switch. Also his crazy hair is just the best!
