One of the biggest no, no’s that will cost you a big repair bill is your black water tank. I worked as an OEM at a major RV dealership so I know. What sales does not tell you is going to cost you down the line. A lot of RV owners from small Rv’s to class A’s often do when they are hooked up to sewer, water and Power is they leave their valve open on the black and grey tanks and leave them open. Bad idea. Both tanks are designed to be wet tanks. What happens sooner in the black than the grey for obvious reasons is the content in the black tank turns like into concrete. You will never be able to dissolve that mess your black water tank will need to be replaced. So if you don’t want problems with your holding tanks don’t leave them open, drain when they are half full and use a good tank chemical. Pour a gallon of RV antifreeze into the toilet and flush and the sinks and then drain into grey leaving the pee traps with antifreeze in them. This will keep your system wet as well as keep your valves from getting ruined because of cold storage.

I have to say our store wants to give the best experience we can with what we are given.

I bought my new Class B Travato from my local CW back in 2023 as it was off-season and they had the best price at the time. Despite all the negativity I was reading about them, I was fortunately not to ever have to take it back for service or warranty issues. During the close, they tried to oversell so many services and even had a grocery cart with merchandize with my name on it that I all refused. The Travato has been a great rig for us so far.

If they are closing stores, why would the Albuquerque NM location have an ad to buy RVs because they are short on used RVs? Maybe they don’t need the inventory but just want to gouge a desperate buyer? Maybe they are going back to the sell used as is in their new business plan during this economic downturn? What are your thoughts on that?

I went into to my local Camping World yesterday. I was looking for a 40 to 44 foot toy hauler. The sales rep that was assigned to me said he was busy and had a woman take me out to show me the three toy hauler trailers that they had in stock. I took a few minutes to look at the trailers. I had pricing and options questions. The woman who took me out to the lot was pleasant, but told me she wasn't in sales and could not give me any info on the trailers. She then drove me back to my vehicle and said goodbye. As I was getting into my car, I thought to myself they really had no interest in having me as a customer. Shook my head as I was leaving the Camping World parking lot.

Used to be a salesman for CW. My coworkers were awesome, unfortunately my GM was a horrible person and it ended up he was siphoning money out our commission checks, that's a whole other story. I always hated the weekly meetings we had to sit in on a zoom call with Marcus, it was always some dumb idea that we had to focus on instead of just selling the units people wanted at a reasonable profit. Especially at the tail end of the covid years we started having "minis" where most of our used inventory would pay a set commission that was barely enough to be worth the work and time to sell them. Could sell a 30k travel trailer and only get $200 pretax from it. And then randomly boats were added to our lot that only took up space and were overpriced compared to what actual boat owners would want. I had worked there for 3 years going from retail to sales and ultimately quit before shit hit the fan. Soon after I quit, so did our top 3 sales performers. The commission from the manufacturers were usually more than what CW would pay me and I was selling 15+ units a month in one of the smallest markets.

It seems like there are so many negatives about RVs and the dealers. I give up. I had been looking to buy an RV, but it does not seem worth it. How do any of us really know what we are getting into?

If Camping World goes out of business, it should be considered a public service.

We are on our second RV in the beginning. I was going to get one from camping world. I didn’t really like the vibe of camping world just because it’s such a big dealer and I ended up getting my first RV from campers in. The one we are currently in I got from blue compass and I am thoroughly impressed and happy that I went with a smaller dealer than dealing with camping world
