The relative small amount of acid is used because there is a small amount of material to work with, if i want to extract a profitable amount of gold +10gr - inaccessible acid volume is needed. Dilute sulfuric acid needs to be concentrated, and other acids can be produced using fertilizers, but it is a major undertaking.
