  The story goes that before the movie was released Jack Warner threatened to sue the Marx Brothers if they used the name Casablanca in their title. This was because the Warner Brothers studio had &nbsp;released &quot;Casablanca&quot; staring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman four years earlier. <br>When he was informed of this Groucho told Warner that if he went to court he would counter sue Warner&apos;s company for making use of the word &quot;Brothers&quot;. Groucho pointed out that his family had been working under the name of the &quot;Marx Brothers&quot; since 1905 whereas the &quot;Warner Brothers&quot; studio hadn&apos;t come into existence &nbsp;until 1923 . &nbsp;Warner didn&apos;t sue.

  One of my very favorite Marx Brothers film.<br>Trivia: Released on May 10, 1946. Original title was &quot;Adventures in Casablanca.&quot; The original script was intended as a direct spoof of the classic Warner Brothers 1942 movie &quot;Casablanca.&quot; Location filming took place at Palm Springs, California.<br>Harpo was offered $50,000 to utter the word &quot;Murder.&quot; He turned it down.<br>The film was financed by the Marx Brothers themselves under their production company Loma Vista Films. This was their attempt to take charge of their careers.<br>The brothers took a brief pre-filming tour of their scenes live in order to test their material and refine and sharpen the comedy. They had done the same thing for &quot;A Night at the Opera&quot; (1935), &amp; &quot;A Day at the Races&quot; (1937). Harpo&apos;s real hair is dyed and curled in this movie instead of him wearing his usual blonde wig.<br>In the gambling scene when Rusty bets everything for the third time on number 5, Kornblow says &quot;Sure you want to go through with this? Remember what happened in 1929?&quot; This is a nod to the stock market crash where Groucho lost much of his fortune. The song &quot;Who&apos;s Sorry Now&quot; was a bigger hit than the film at the time.

  This is hysterical and wonderful. Even when I was a teenager watching Marx Bros. films on TV in the 60s, the films were deteriorated , cracking and buzzing and jumping. But film preservation has come a long way. I wonder if the film looked this good on the big screen in 1946. I believe the general assessment of this film is very middling. I don&apos;t get how that can be. Of course the plot and the characters are preposterous and contrived - that&apos;s the genre. <br><br>The Bros. had been retired from the movie business for half a decade but came back to make this and I think just one other film IMO it is one of their best and all 3 of them really get to shine. Even the musical sequences which were often filler in the older movies or just demonstrating the musical talents of Harpo and Chico. They are very entertaining here and that band/orchestra backing Chico&apos;s piano got into a hot vibe when they started to swing. Very creative all around.
