You talk about him being simple and I think what you mean is he's so DIRECT. The dude doesn't try to make his lyrics sound extra hard or extra complex, he just says it all straight and that gives it this rawness almost no one else has. Like that final four bars in Smoke Again is fucking wild as an example.
