This video shall not be reused, reproduced, or redistributed without written permission from Growler Jams. __________________ EA-18G Light Division Wingman Carrier Recovery Aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) Welcome aboard a rare, detailed look at a carrier landing from the wingman position in an EA-18G Growler aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). This recovery took place on the backside of a 1.5-hour training sortie about 300 nm west of Guam, as part of a light division recovery. The video starts with us entering low holding overhead Mom at angels 3, while we wait for the deck to clear and for the fighters at angels 2 to break the deck. After several laps in low holding, it’s finally our turn for the overhead break. On my first pass, I’m waived off due to improper lens settings on the arresting gear. The red flashing lights on the FRESNEL lens signal me to go-around for another attempt. No big deal. I had plenty of gas. On the second attempt, we successfully trap and this video offers a rare and valuable perspective of carrier landing operations from the wingman’s POV. This is the reality of carrier landings—no two are exactly the same, but with training and experience, we always get it done.
