    That set is from approx.1950,  irrespective of the miniature tube complement. Roundie CRTs disappeared from about '51 on.

    My very oldest set was from 1948 and the same thing happened to the coating on the white round screen picture tube. It flaked off. &nbsp;A major collector bought it and probably used a capacitor in its place. <br>I have seen another collector use a Spray on Graphite on the envelope and it worked. <br>Yes that cap smoked out because the loudspeaker electromagnet doubles as the power supply filter choke. <br>My 1948 TV had the same design. <br>I&apos;ve seen where one of the miniature 7 pin type will have a pin break off and it appears okay but not actually connected internally.
