In India, most people don't use last names, and I was no exception. Then, to commemorate Dr. Carl Sagan, I changed my last name to Sagan. What better way to cherish the ideals...!

😭 He is the reason my life changed. I was lost, and his Cosmos series, and books, and quotes, ignited a fire in me to be curious, humble, and excited about the tool of science and its methods that we humans developed for making our lives better and for understanding the universe we share and exist in. He taught me that we need a healthy dose of skepticism and openness to new ideas, both.<br>He taught me how important it is that we treat each other with kindness and patience because “none of us comes fully equipped.”<br>He is one of the humans I admire most in all of history.

When I was in college in the 1980s, I was science editor of the student newspaper. At one point I decided to write a letter to Carl Sagan himself asking if he'd be willing to write an article for the newspaper's science section. He actually responded with a real letter. But instead of writing an article, he said I could reprint a section from one of his science books. That's the closest I ever got to meeting him in real life.

Maybe the greatest mind of the 20th century. He left a legacy of wonder, hope and compassion for all living beings terrestrial or Xtraterrestrial. You are missed Carl. Mr. X

This man did what all humans need to do, what I now do. Carl Sagan thought for himself, and pondered, he will remain a legend and one of the greatest teachers the human race has ever known. A wonderful human being.
