Which is your favorite generation of Renault 5? And I raise this question in the video: do you think car design peaked in the late 20th Century, and that all the best current designs (5, Defender, Fiat 500) are all looking back?

I generally don't love new cars, but I hugely applaud Renault for making something small/not a big gross SUV and I hope they do well from it. One of the few I'd actually consider buying (also funky yellow)

Great video. And I completely agree. All three generations are lovely in their own ways, and right for their times. Modern car design is in a sad state. There is nothing new anymore. But at least the electric 5 is a lovely modern interpretation of what was a brilliant design concept. I have an 81 mk1 as well as the new 5 (in yellow 😎). Both cars are adorable 🥰

Each generation of the 5 is charming in their own rights. It’s intriguing to learn how the original 5 became the pre-cursor to the supermini as we know it today, especially as it’s FWD (which I had no idea)! I love the new 5, and how it has just about the perfect blend of retro styling with modern usability - if I was in the market for an EV (I’m not against them, it currently doesn’t suit my typical journeys nor home charging arrangements), it would definitely be this! Thank you for a great comparison video!

My heartiest of congratulations for bringing together all 3 generations. My own personal favourite is the post-facelift first generation, mostly for nostalgia. Many members of my family had one in the 80s in Portugal, and I loved the dash with the big chunky switches on the side. It was truly cheap and cheerful.

My sister had both a post-facelift first generation and a Super 5, but that Super 5 had practically zero kit and the plastic felt a lot nastier. Your exemplar seems to be both better equipped and in better nick. All thebest!

The new 5 is one of the best looking small cars on sale today. I think the French manufacturers are on fire at the moment, they genuinely stand out for their flair.

Hugely informative. Love that you featured an automatic for the facelift version of the original R5 (identifiable by the vinyl roof).

Renault got everything right on the R5 e-tech that Tesla and others got wrong with their electric vehicle designs.

It is simply the best EV design on the roads today, and the R4 is not far behind. No need for a Cybertruck to get noticed, and in this case, for all of the right reasons, not all of the wrong reasons.

Love the new R5, i came very close to leasing the Alpine version recently but I've decided to hang on with an EV for the moment and decided to go for a Renault Symbioz hybrid instead, Renault are smashing it at the moment ❤
