Those poor abused horses - humans can be so disgusting with their inflated egos and rampant greed.

I've seen what drugs can do to a horse. My boss bought an OTT gelding...7yo. When we let him loose in the pasture, he owned it. Little did we know he was "buted up". 3 days later he couldn't even walk. He dropped weight so fast it made our heads spin. I'd like to knock the crap out of the previous owner for doing that to him.

Horse racing is not about the horses. Its about the money. Always has been, and always will be.
The horses suffer for it.

I dislike that they use the term “breaking down” for horses like they are some kind of machine.

My kids and I used to be great supporters of horse racing. We never watched another race after Ruffian broke her leg. They will lose the sport if they keep this up.

What if they make a rule like "if one horse breaks down during the race, than the race stops immediately"

No one would abuse the drugs with the risk of losing the race/money.

There's just something in my gut that makes me recoil at the idea of an animal as a money making machine.

I believe the age needs to be addressed as well 2 and 3 years old is so young horses will still be in their primes at 5 and 6, Zenyatta is a prime example of that

They need to take a blood sample from each horse that has a breakdown and drug test it. Fine or ban the trainers and the owners for a positive test. Make the fines huge.
