  The role of John the Baptist (at least in the protestant churches in America) is really just a guy who randomly shows up a couple times. This episode really anchored his importance.

  Your opening narration about Mary and the world she lived was amazing and evocative. It really conveyed a feeling about Roman Israel that I don&apos;t think I&apos;ve gotten anywhere else. I think it really got through the reality of the grim world she lived in.

  I was forced to stop at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82vxOBbYSzk&amp;t=2450">40:50</a> to contemplate the historic method utilized in this place. To think of the Gospels not as biographies, but as “memories shaped by faith” is a brilliant turn of phrase. It’s like we’re archeologists, piecing together a broken mosaic and half the pieces are gone. Really compelling work, Doctor Sledge.
