why don't more people in the gay community talk about this?

I started trauma therapy four years ago. My therapist is former military and our first appointment was interesting. I don't think he has probably ever really talked to a gay person. I didn't think we would stay together long, but here we are four years later. He has helped me so much, and I think I have shown him a lot about the gay community and the struggle we go through as gay people growing up in religious homes.

This interview is spot on though.

Wow! This was such a moving show for me. I've been in and out of therapy processing my "stuff." The part that has been missing, yet vitally important, is thanking, embracing, and loving my trauma protectors. THANK YOU both for this gift, and thank you for trying to get it out into our community. We are so wonderful, but so fractured and in need of self love and compassion.

Wow, really powerful stuff. I feel incredibly frustrated at my (what I see as a) lack of willingness to let go, which only increases my fear of doing just that. So much of what you guys talked about I related to. Thanks for sharing.

This is a really important and very valuable topic. I was crying while I was listening to Dr.Frankie talking about his trauma. I am sooo sorry you both had to go through what you went through and I wish you both the best ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Thanks for this discussion with your most eloquent guest. He really distills a number of truths about this issue. I can really identify with him in many areas. I think the point he most effectively drove home for me is the notion of loving oneself before any healing can begin. This idea that one’s reactions to trauma cause disorders. I personally used to think I was a perfectionist, but learning that it’s a reaction to trauma puts things in a different light. Your guest is truly an enlightened individual who is disseminating light over darkness. Your guest’s mention of releasing trauma is a concept I’ve never heard until now. Also, when he mentions about journaling and writing and how he exercises in nature while listening to music rings so true for me.

Your mention of hypermasculinity as a trauma response could be fodder for another episode, IMHO. Also, could fetishism be considered a trauma response? Another episode?

Super excellent episode!!

Dr. Anderson mentioned a salient point; we manage our trauma, but don't RELEASE it! I'm also 61, 60 when this was released, and have accumulated all kinds of trauma that I'm now trying to release. This was very profound, time for an extra viewing! (and yes, he DOES look 45! 😍🥰🔑:medal-yellow-first-red::medal-yellow-first-red:).
