Hey Steve just a heads up A lot of plastics that they put that rubber grip kind of texture on it It does degrade with time and the best way to get it off is honestly to just clean it with alcohol it'll eventually will come off completely and it'll be a nice smooth plastic finish like it's supposed to be before they put that coating on it

The coating is a factory rubbber coating that is breaking down and becoming sticky, this is very normal thing to come by if you are fixing electronics, expecially gaming stuff.

Man, you need an ultrasonic cleaner badly! Gross. There's no way you can get the plastic/pcbs all the way clean without something like an ultrasonic cleaner. And you don't need to scrub so much nasty yourself haha.

As for the metal discoloration, that's likely an acid etching effect caused by the soda. Some diluted white vinegar might help clear that up. If not, adding baking soda to the solution might help, too. But that's pretty harmless once cleaned, especially since you can't see it without cracking open the unit.

Great vid, as always!

Phosphoric acid can cause black staining on steel, a lot of sodas contain a small amount of it to add tartness, looked like grape soda so it makes sense.

If you get any more with a bunch of sticky stuff on it like soda, I recommend putting some heat to it or a plastic scraper to scrape off the majority of it. Then alcohol/swab. Works pretty good for me and it’s real fast. Hope that helps and thanks for the videos! They are great. Take care.
