SO much artistry exists in Agon; it is THE most characteristic of all his works. Here is the rhythmic complexity of his Russian period, here is the timbral crystalline beauty of his neoclassical period, and here is the ingenious Webernesque dodecaphony (although not pervasive through the whole work), showing itself grandly and proudly in the Bransle segments.

The richness of creative energy is amazing. The orchestration is staggering in colour. The whole ballet a masterpiece.

One of the most brilliant masterpieces in Stravinsky’s oeuvre. A flawless re-discovery and re-invigoration of Renaissance music as it intersects with Stravinsky’s unique dodecaphonic style. Along with Canticum Sacrum, two fabulous musical “mashups”! 😅

Sublime. Possibly the greatest composition of the whole 20th Century. Sends shivers down my spine and brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

To me, it is absolutely amazing that Strawinsky wrote this piece at 75, when he was (once again) reinventing his musical style... It is so powerful and youthful... I hope I can be the same (old body, young and fresh spirit) when I ever reach that age...

The Pas de Deux is hauntingly beautiful; as if two spirits were intertwined.

My favorite Stravinsky's late works period, always finding his way to be different from the rest, 12 tone? yes, but with his own rules. The whole work is full of beauties but the Gaillard with his magic instrumentation and it soft pas is amazing, and the Pas de Deux, so serious, in fact full of sadeness is almost impresive.

Possibly my favorite Stravinsky piece and as good a piece as was written last century.

My favorite Stravinsky as well. You can tell he was listening to Webern quite carefully, also Berg and Schoenberg, taking what he wanted and ignoring the rest. It's thrilling the way all the disparate textures coalesce into a whole.
