As someone struggling with an un-conditioned space that refuses to cool at night in the summer, this is an invaluable resource.

As someone who starts to sweat as soon as the temperature goes above 70 degrees, I think often how awful it must have been! So happy I didn’t live back then!

I bet most of the peasants preferred the heat rather than the frigid cold of winter.

I was born in 1949 and we had no Air Conditioning until about 1960 we got a window A/C and that was a window unit.😊

I'm in the suburbs of Chicago, and A/C is my favorite invention after indoor plumbing.

In Switzerland, they still pretty much live like that in summer. No AC anywhere X) But you can be sure the public transports actually put on the heating to make sure nobody gets cold in July.

In many places, houses were already made in stone, especially around the Mediterranean Sea where the climate is arid . So the heat was not such problem. The winters were harder.

The way to keep your Home cool in the U.K during the hot weather (all 1 week of it) is to keep windows, blinds & curtains closed, opening them just lets the heat in, but I’d much rather live in a temperate climate like the U.K. rather than a place with one season, Hot & hotter, it’s why those in the Mediterranean area have white wooden blinds they close during the heat.
