Sometimes a flex is wearing cheap things if you are rich.

Hi, I buy expensive watches hoping to fill a void in my life. I keep buying, void doesn't seem to get any smaller. Maybe I should try something else :) Like therapy.

I have a Submariner, Explorer II, and Speedie. The only watch anyone ever comments on is my Casio A168. It seems to bring out a sense of nostalgia from people and puts me in a better mood when I’m wearing it.

The idea that Longines appeal to 'poors' is a silly internet bro flex thing. Many of their clients are medical professionals who make a lot of money by average standards (especially in Europe) but don't want to signal wealth. They are the kinds of people who have a hard cap on watch spending, unlike many of us who would more likely be drawn to brands like JLC or entry VC if we had that sort of money and wanted to fly under the radar with a beautiful dress watch.

My aunt, who is worth around 7-8 million AUD, owns a Longines and quartz Cartier (a Tank Américaine, which cost around 6k AUD). She doesn't feel the need to buy anything more extravagant and considers the Cartier to be 'very expensive'. I had to practically twist her arm to buy it in front of Cartier sales associates!😆 And she has much richer friends who don't buy watches at all.

I picked my baby blue moonswatch because I get to say Uranus. We are not the same. 😂

"Ancient Chinese Proverb." 🤣🤣. As both a car guy and a watch guy, I approve this! LOL

I was proud of Rolex and said that to my Swiss business friends, they think it’s just a watch. They wore Seiko, Casio, Omega, Panerai😊

If my Seiko 5 had a bit more water resistance I don't think I'd even be thinking about another watch.

When you have a lot (A LOT) of money you can start playing a little bit more and express yourself. But for most people getting into watches with some money, they want something that people can recognize, and that's showing in the market. The brands that are recovering first are those that are recognized as symbol status. If you're in finance, you need to be super confident to come with your favorite non-rolex, patek, RO in your wrist; and most people are not that confident.

I've seen footage of super rich hedge fund managers wearing Luminox navy seal watch.
I've owned at least 4-5 of those because i liked their colors, tritium day glo, ultra light plastic.
However, a few "stopped" and battery change was almost every year. Crap.

There a two types of wealth - the genuinely rich & the trying to convince other people you're rich rich.
