You know it's going to be a good video when you hear Tom say: "This pit is loaded" 😊

I once met a guy who lived on Cape Cod. He hunts for old items at an old landfill. He said tree roots is where he finds most of his unbroken bottles and other glassware. He sells it for good money.

I found you completely as just a random video showing up and I'm so glad it happened. This is the first of yours that I have watched and I am looking forward exploring your other postings.

A house I bought in central Florida was build on an old farmstead. Since it sat way back from the street my wife wanted lights on either side of the driveway near the street. As I started digging a 100 ft trench I started find all kinds of old glass bottles, jars, metal things including the hood and ornament of an old Pontiac. Seems when the old farmhouse burned back the 1920's they dug a big hole and pushed all the debris into it and covered it up. I still have some of the old tools, cast iron items, single bladed plow, and electrical insulators. Some years later we were adding onto the house and needed a new septic and drain field in the back, that is where we found most of a tractor. With that I assuming the barn had also burned when the house went.

The item towards the end is called a cruet and used to hold vinegar.

This was a really fulfilling episode. The history, the pictures, knowing the family still owns the land AND will be able to touch and see things from their family.
Really nice. Great job!

In the very early 1960s we stayed summer vacation with Sue Belle. She'd go "bottle hunting" around old home places. Once we got back she'd soak the bottles in water to get the dirt out of them. Later she'd set them in her windows to reflect the sunshine.
Happy memories from my growing up years in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina 😊

Hi you displaced a metal flat piece that is square with four equal squares inside the original square, and had a hole in the middle for a plunger. I believe it's a piece used with a square type jar or tin, muslin, a plunger, and a canning lid. You would fill the jar with fresh cool whole cream and assemble the top with a wooden a linen seal the pump it up for a long time. The milk separates from the butter and the butter is pressed thru the four square form to make four squares of butter...very fancy for the colonies. Congrats on your find.
