Inconsistency is the biggest issue with the series: inconsistencies in story development, inconsistencies in character development, inconsistencies in creature development, inconsistencies in set development. The most ridiculous thing is that after everything the 5 seasons trying to establish, it all came down one giant spider that was easily defeated by a bunch of kids.

10:30 It just occurred to me that this saga with Eleven being bullied and isolated without her powers could've been a great place to reintroduce Kali

I really enjoyed S4, but wish the whole Hopper/Russian subplot wasn't there. Not just because Hopper surviving pissed me off, especially following the tear inducing letter voiceover. But also because, what the fuck.

Despite being starved and living in subhuman conditions, our boy beefs into a muscular work of art. I'm sure this was appreciated by many. He becomes so super that breaking his ankle makes it only slightly more inconvenient running barefoot across miles of frozen wasteland.

Peace out and good luck on the whole fatherhood thing ✌️

Man, imagine if the series was an anthology like it was originally supposed to be. Season 1 would've ended with such high praise, knowing that it actually had an end, and we could've had season after season of 8 episode epics on the same scale.

I recently read my diary entry I made after watching season 4 and I just called it straight up dumb in it.

The season 4 ending was always going to be a problem, because its the setup for a climax in the story: the bag guy has won, the heroes barely escaped, and the town literally collapsed into hell. But then they had to to follow it up with 10-12 hours of TV. They should have just made a movie.

Will was seriously only used for the plot and shock value. The Duffers never actually cared about exploring his trauma or his sexuality or proving his stated belief that “I’m not gonna fall in love” wrong. Even though they wrote the scene where he gives Mike the painting to be one of if not the most powerful expression of romantic love on the whole show, conveying just how well he sees and understands Mike for who he really is, the Duffers refused to admit the gravity of what they wrote and never let Mike find out that the painting was actually not a gift from El at all. In the finale he’s got the painting on his wall as if it’s a memento from El; he never learns it was all a lie because the Duffers did not write what they thought they were writing. They wanted Will’s feelings for Mike to ultimately be meaningless and something he has to just get over - which is insanely problematic considering he’s the only member of the main cast who never gets a proper love interest and whose feelings aren’t taken seriously by the narrative - but that is simply not what they wrote. And the story feels unfinished for Mike to only tell El how he feels because of a lie and then never learn the truth.

What the show basically came down to is a soft reboot each seson. After season two each season resets the status quo, the story, the characters, the city. Like a 10 hour long episode of a sitcom.

In a show full of geniuses, smarty-pants, and nerds, the resident idiot becomes an indispensable character. That dynamic just plays well in so many situations. That is the reason they cannot get rid of Steve. It was a genius move for the actor to suggest that Steve is "not so smart". That really cemented his place in the show.

I think the biggest mistake in season 5 was not killing Jonathan and Nancy. I still don't even really understand how they got saved, and it would have given that dread of "OH, they're killing off main characters now for the finale!" especially if the save was just a few minutes too late and they drowned in the goo. Everything always works out perfectly timed and tbh didn't really care about Jonathan or Nancy as characters. And that would have been an amazing way to watch the characters cope with their death right before a final boss battle. Dustin feeling like it was his fault (again), Mike losing his sister, and Steve losing his love, Will losing his brother... It would have been a well for really good emotional acting and talks
