I am quite biased because I’ve seen the movie once, saw a bunch of analyses on it and created my own thoughts on how everything works. So when I was watching this video I didn’t realise just how much I was doing to make this movie flow in my head.

However, I do think that Bear is chracterised a lot more than you thought. Sandy died due to him being careless, leaving the pills out. That scene where you said he wasn’t fishing for emotions, to me, felt like he was. Like after struggling to talk to Nikki I think he wanted to fish that reaction from Sarah to get him to comfort him. In that montage Bear slowly gets disinterested with her, even when nothing strange is happening. Which looks to me like he only superficially liked her. I’ve been for the discourse of bear being a nice guy and so I like how he switched to being so evil. Like before even the kill me scene the one right after the dinner was messed up too. Bear didn’t even ask Nikki if she was okay when she was running around the room and she just told him to sleep. And the idiot was actually gonna go to bed…

Comment is getting long so, I think Bear was done well. The wish is done pretty well? I believe that it was due to his wording of “more than anyone in the fucking world” is what twisted the wish, and that the wish gave him a Nikki that loved him so so so so so much that she can only function around him. That’s just my two thoughts.

Bear's character is incredibly fleshed out. Bear was consistently written as a passive character, with an incredible resolve to not be disliked/blamed because he's a 'nice guy'. If Ian needs a ride, he gives Ian a ride. When his cat gets into his pills, it's not 'oh shit', instead it's 'how did you get into that'? His character is very misleading, and this sudden change of 'he became so evil' is just because of the drastic change in circumstance. What changes is that the reality that Nikki was fully his possession became clear over the course of the movie. This is why Bear doesn't need some insane act of cruelty or manipulation to show that he's capable of these things. It's demonstrated time and time again that unchecked power like the one Bear held simply exposes more pieces of someone.

As for all the questions about "why does the willow exist?" "why does magic exist?" "how does it work?", I don't take that as a valid criticism. There has to be a point where you accept the premise of the movie that you're watching. A whole subplot of how the one wish willow was created, how magic exists, and precisely how it works would kill most of the mystery surrounding it. It would also kill a lot of the discourse around the movie. Sometimes not knowing the origin of something adds more. This may come off as a cop-out answer, but there's a difference between demanding a technical explanation for everything and questioning the internal rules of a supernatural story.

i will never understand why bear's wish wasn't "i wish nikki was crazy obsessed with me" just say the word obsessed somewhere in the wish to explain why she's SOOO crazy for him. so many scenes i got taken out of the movie thinking "how is this love in anyone's eyes". I brought up the cat so many times to my friends. bear was clearly telling her to tone it down because it was hurting him and his relationship with other ppl, someone who loved him would agree right away. someone who was Obsessed would lie about agreeing.

Love is selfless
Obsession is a selfish feeding hunger

Also yeah they should have explained the willow a little better. My head cannon was that the person who makes the wish had to 100% believe the wish wouldn't come true. so anyone who actually bought it actually had a small hope it would work. Also i found it weird why sometimes real nikki was shocked and scared like she didn't know what was happening moments before she broke through but then other times she was calm and logical like she had been watching through her eyes the whole time.
