We've invited the cannibal to dinner, under the umbrella of dietary inclusivity . . . but we've not notified everyone else that some invitee(s) are going to be a meal for other invitees.

A lot of the anti-normal push is performative and sour grapes. The people who couldn’t behave in a healthy and normal fashion are trying to make a virtue of their failings 🤷🏻♀️

Good stuff. It’s crazy that in 2025, common sense talk sounds ground breaking and revolutionary!!!

A friend and I just had a very similar conversation--including the last and perhaps most important thing Phillips says here: you can have a society that tolerates people with non-standard ways of living without pretending that those things are perfectly normal. The progressive left now demands not merely toleration--it demands that we accept every weird "lifestyle" as being normal...and just as good as any other. Look, I'm odd and unusual in certain ways. I'm glad society is tolerant of them. And I don't "demand" that everyone else must cheerfully promote my eccentricities as normal.

I fully agree about the attempt to eliminate normativity. As an autistic/Asperger’s person, I don't want society to make my condition normative. I see many people like me asserting that they are normal but just a different version of normal. No, I want compassion but I don't want to fool myself that I am as a desired state as a<br>neutotypical/normal. I have great qualities but they come at a great social cost.

Thank you. I love this conversation. It's so good to listen to two women who are not screaming at each other about whatever ideology is most popular on the day. Post modernism and post that has destroyed the current era.

Wile E Coyote didn't realize he was in trouble until he was well past the edge of the cliff and Isaac Newton had entered the chat.

Are we destroying ourselves? Melanie Philips, the voice of clarity, intelligence and common sense. She is brilliant. Thank you both!

Fact is society can and even should tolerate some abnormality to avoid stagnation. The crucial point is what kind or what amount of abnormality is tolerable in order to keep society cohesive and functionable. After all criminality is also considered as abnormal and not to be tolerated.
