  My chemistry teacher when I was a 10yo showed us how to do this. It made me fascinated in science. He used to work for Burmah oil so brought a 5 gallon container when on vacation. This was the late 1960's. Imagine doing that today. I remember gasoline being condensed at about 65C.

  Great video and very informative.  I'm from NW Ohio and we have a few oil wells in my area.  During WW2 a farmer down the road from my childhood home built a refinery in a shack next to a small creek.  Gas was rationed at the time and he needed fuel for tractors on his farm.  He cracked crude oil as you stated in this video.  I just finished a hike to that spot.  The shack has mostly fallen down at this point but parts of the refinery are still there.  He used an old boiler tank for the heated part and the temp and pressure gauges are still intact.  It would seem that he used natural gas from the well head for fuel for the burner.  There is an line shaft driven pump, I am guessing he used stream water to chill the condenser.  I would have loved to be alive at the time to watch it work!
