I love learning. I've been playing EB since high school and DB after college. I retired early from software engineering career and went to music school got my double bass performance degree. Now I'm an orchestra musician, and freelance theater player. I loved being in music school. I need to join SBL and check out the pathways.

I've primarily played musical theatre gigs in my 20+ years and i came to the same end result. Played an active 5 string jazz for a long time. Now i have a spector 5 and it does all that i want for every gig. Its a great swiss army knife.

It’s so good hearing from such a great player and overall dude who’s also doing musicals! I did a run of Next To Normal and definitely threw in my own flair, so I was happy to hear that even at the highest levels that bass players in theatre don’t change all that much 😂

Jan '78 here. The bass I've had the longest is a Feb '78 Rickenbacker 4001. Me and my bass were born mere days apart.

Ian K is right. If you put away your bass for a long time: you're not tuning it up, you're not making truss rod adjustments, seasonal humidity/temp changes are happening, and the neck gets settled into a position where it doesn't feel/sound right. Tuning up and adjusting the truss rod gets your playability back, but it often takes 3-7 days for the wood in the neck to groan back into shape. <br><br>I'm not an amazing bass player, but I love playing and taking care of my instruments. Each one is a big commitment for me, tbh, so I will likely keep my collection small.
