In 1984 it was brutal: 42 years later it has lost none of it's edge.

I saw it on UK tv, when it was first broadcast.
Everyone, in work the next day, all of whom had seen it, was subdued, the enormity of it sinking in.
I watched it, again, a few weeks ago and the harsh, possible, reality of it struck me, again.
I have watched countless movies in the genre, over the last 42 years, including, like many, The Day After, which, in my opinion, comes in second place, but the grittiness, the absolute despair, portrayed in this film cannot be matched.
Thanks for uploading! 👍

It's the most terrifying film ever made and made on a BBC budget.A teenager of the 1980s I and my fellow teenages lived with the fear of a nuclear strike a very real fear. This is the destruction of life itself .

At the time this was originally broadcast I was working temporarily in the town hall of a town with a population of 200,000. The man who had the ultimate control after an event like this had made a list of what he would need. I remember it included, a ball of string, pencils, toilet paper.... and other similar trivial items. I knew then, we were doomed if it actually happened.

One of the most important films ever made. Threads is not just a post-apocalyptic drama, it is a warning. No glamour, no heroic fantasy, no easy survival story, just the terrifying reality of nuclear war and the collapse of ordinary life. Decades later, it still feels more powerful and more relevant than most modern films.

Everyone should watch it at least once. Especially those charged with keeping us safe.
