  i think a huge amount of the issues w twilight are cuz stephanie meyers is(was?) mormon. like all of the relationship stuff with edward and bella mimics the way the the lds church treats relationships. <br><br>also the editing in this video was really good!

  Stephanie Meyer is Mormon, and the conflict between the vampires and werewolves is modeled after a conflict in the Book of Mormon. &nbsp;It’s a whole long thing to explain but deeply rooted in racism against indigenous people. &nbsp;A lot of the times Meyer’s religion comes up in relation to the weird purity stuff in her books, but it also informs her books in a whole separate way that’s even deeper and more messed up. &nbsp;Typically this isn’t discussed in YouTube essays on twilight, but there are plenty of academic papers on this and it’s worth reading about!

  im so SO curious what louis will say if he reads Midnight Sun (Edward&apos;s perspective of the first book). Also I realized that twilight is one of the big reasons that so many people say problematic romance books are &quot;dark romance&quot; and the excuse of &quot;its problematic, but its ok bc its fiction.&quot; Like NO dark romance books are supposed to have dark themes with romance, not a problematic love interest that makes the book literally just abuse but u just stamp it with &quot;dark romance&quot;

  OMG! I went back and read the midnight sun Edward pov version of Twilight...HOW IS IT WORSE??? The Cullens are NOT the superior, &quot;we don&apos;t hurt humans&quot; bs they seem! They cause a massive car pile-up by Emmett flipping a car (that they stole) into traffic, trying to &quot;protect&quot; Bella. Then...then, they steal a second car by Carlisle&apos;s please revoke his medical license &nbsp;ass, sedate&apos;s a woman on the side of the road to steal her car. There is this whole ridiculous plot-line where Alice steals a bunch of blood and launches herself out a window in Emmett&apos;s giant hoodie to fake Bella&apos;s supposed fall that is how they explain her broken leg! The Cullens earlier in the book straight-up have a vote kind of the way Bella calls for a vote in Eclipse to debate whether they should just kill her! WHY is it ok/romanticized that he stalks, isolates, grooms, manipulates and straight-up thinks about unaliving her???Also, for someone so &quot;self-aware&quot; about his being a &quot;monster&quot; that spawns his incessant whining and self hatred doesn&apos;t stop him from being creepy or being straight-up controlling and abusive? Are we gonna forget that in Eclipse, he damages her truck at least once to keep her away from Jacob, leaves her with bruises after the first time they sleep together in Breaking Dawn and then gets her pregnant while like repeatedly hitting her over the head with &quot;get rid of it&quot;. Not, to mention...2 scenes that still DISGUST me to my core: in Eclipse, there is this weird cukcold-adjacent moment where there camping, waiting to fight newborns, she&apos;s freezing and she ends up in a sleeping with Jacob while Edward watches and resents to supposedly keep her from freezing. 2, in Breaking Dawn, Edward has a convo with Jacob behind Bella&apos;s back, being like: &quot;Hey, if you help convince her to yeetus-that-fetus, we can share her and she can have &quot;puppies&quot;. Sorry, rant over

I feel like I&apos;ve been pulling my hair out hearing the argument surrounding trope marketing and the part that has really gotten under my skin can be summed up here. <br><br>There can be a book with all the tropes one loves but it sucks and just the presence of those tropes does not magically make it good and honestly they don&apos;t necessarily make it bad either. For all I could rant about how it feels like every romantasy books is identical when it&apos;s described to me the problem isn&apos;t the genre inherently or tropes, it&apos;s lazy writing. Read all the smutty books one wants, I&apos;d be a hypocrite to say I&apos;ve never enjoyed one myself just demand good writing out of them.<br><br>P.S. I will admit, what one considers quality writing is very subjective which is why one should also try to branch out now and then to see how other authors in other genres and subgenres have developed their own styles.
