  Southerner here! Thank you for the kind words you said about our food. Our food &amp; culture get made fun of a lot (and listen, we get it &amp; we make fun of ourselves, too). Another important aspect of Southern food to remember is that the vast majority of our <b>signature</b> dishes- biscuits &amp; gravy, shrimp and grits, collard greens, etc- were created from a history marked by slavery, poverty, necessity, and ingenuity. They are often made with simple, &quot;staple&quot; ingredients most families had on hand or in the garden. Every Southern family at one point in time made a daily (if not every meal) plate of biscuits or cornbread. Every single day. Because it&apos;s a carb (for energy &amp; taste), it was on-hand (flour was common and corn for corn meal was cheap), and it was filling. Combining flour, salt, buttermilk, sausage and sausage grease/fat = biscuit &amp; gravy. &nbsp;They were often created out of a need to make the little bit you had feed a lot of people, without much money. If you or your family were enslaved, you would have had to find a way to utilize the &nbsp;remains after an animal was butchered for market, &nbsp;because all you were allotted were the pieces that seemed &quot;inedible&quot;. Then, combining that with literal African-based cooking techniques, flavors, (and smuggled indigenous seeds like okra )was how famous dishes such as chitlens, ham hocks, black-eyed peas, corn pone, and collard greens were born. Our food is our history.

  The dude who went to Scotland and was reminded of America theres a great natural reason. The American Appalachian Mountains end in Scotland there called the Scottish Highlands.

  It is so flipping nice as an American to be appreciated, much less actually liked. In Europe as tourists, way too often we not only feel unwelcome, but an inconvience. But they take our dollars quickly enough.<br> &nbsp; Consider that these aren&apos;t usually rich Americans, but people who saved for years for their &quot;dream European&quot; vacation. Only to have their hopes of even minimal hospitality, completely dashed. And hearts broken.<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;And we got laughed at about that in literally countless Utube sites...in the guise of being informative.<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;But when we gave that same hospitality, to our foreign visitors, THEY LOVED IT. Huh.

  These videos bring me to tears. &nbsp;I am so happy to see how foreigners all over the world love America. &nbsp;I am Black female retire investment executive. &nbsp;I am rebuilding a new career I love my work and I continue to travel, I love Europe, Africa, China and more. &nbsp;But watching people find so much beauty and happiness in our country USA. &nbsp;Listen it&apos;s not perfect and we have plenty of problems, and prejudice and taxes and economic fluctuations. &nbsp;But, I still love it and I is so wonderful watching how much you enjoyed being here.❤

  I think Shawna has hit it on the head. The small towns. That&apos;s America. The local diners. If I were at the diner and the family next to me paid for the Australian&apos;s meal, I&apos;d throw in the tip. Get AWAY &nbsp;from the big cities and travel the byways. They &apos;ll love you you&apos;ll love them. I&apos;m a 28 year truck driver. I&apos;ve stopped at truck stops and paid for non English speakers bills and left before they understood they&apos;re bill was paid for. Welcome to America.
