Thank you for that cultural reminder that the whole world dances. First, food, then shelter, then you dance.

Ido Tadmore is a great teacher. Not only can he do the thing himself and exceedingly well, but he also teaches knowing it is hard but is supportive even when there is struggle. He also incorporates a lot of wholistic and whole being practices with his dancers so they aren't hurting themselves.

Flip flop lady definitely has professional training. She looks as if she could be a ballet teacher.

I'm 42f on dialysis for kidney failure as well as recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I walk about 3 miles a day and eat a really balanced renal diet, and even the dialysis nurses are amazed when I go in now (I'm now longer an in-center patient, I do peritoneal dialysis at home instead of standard hemodialysis). They comment on the fact that I don't even look like a dialysis patient anymore. Don't let ill health prevent you from trying anything. I was a gymnast growing up, as well as taking ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop. Until my mid 30's I was still going to tumbling classes, but I can't do that anymore (because of my dialysis access point in my abdomen, don't wanna get a hernia). But I recently bought a ballet barre for my home gym and I'm going to re-floor it with mylar. And I'm looking for somewhere nearby that does adult ballet classes.

Josephine, thank you for your comment regarding the "ballet is for fat people " when I was 4-5 my mother pulled me out of rural community ballet because the teacher said I would never be a dancer. She blamed my feet.. I was a chubby kid.  My toxic mother believed her with all the resentment she could muster and pulled me from class. I used to take the radio outside and dance on the patio, even as a chubby kid. I grew up having 3 beautiful daughters who danced and still do. Now im 56, and think about what could have been if my mother ,or that teacher ,just would have allowed me to dance. Thank you for encouraging others to get out there and put on those shoes.

Years ago I had the local high school football team come for ballet classes--it was a hoot!  They were furious at discovering that they could NOT do what I could as a female in my forties, HO HO!  and of course the turnout frustrated them.  I told them that one of my ballet masters had said that there are two ways of  being strong--strong like a concrete block or strong like a Toledo sword blade which can be bent into a hoop and springs back when released--and that is ballet strength.

I started adult beginner ballet recently having done exactly zero dance since I did the maypole aged about 5. I felt brave enough to book classes with my awesome teacher because the photos of the class included people who are older and in larger bodies, which made the class look so much more friendly and approachable and appealing than the ones of a dozen identical willowy 20-somethings with perfect form. I'm here to have fun in the body I'm in at the age that I am, not entertain some illusion that I can reverse time and also genetics. I'm having such a great time!

Wow! Yes started ballet at 29 and now I’m 46. I noticed ballet was stopping the aging clock so I just never stopped. Ballet helped my body thru 2 more pregnancies including the last one with twins at age 40. I started pointe at age 40. After having twins I was like “ I can do anything. Why not!” I can’t live without it. When I’m not doing ballet I’m thinking about ballet. I love it so much. It’s my Religion. The ballet classroom is my church.

My adult ballet is a professional ballet school and they are tough on some things like technique, timing, focus and effort. They are forgiving on flexibility, turn out, body size and age. I am proud to go and learn and be challenged.
