A superb interview...and then Marty came on and it became transcendent. Notice how these guys heap praise on everybody else. This is a mark of greatness. That clip of Clarence playing on Time Between was perfect; it's the reason I bought a Telecaster. I teared up over Marty's story about how he got Clarence's Tele. He's the right steward for that legendary instrument. His reverence for Clarence — and for The Byrds in general — is as awe inspiring as Chris Hillman's humility.

My life changed the moment I heard Mr. Tambourine Man on the radio in May 1965. "How can anything sound like that?" I started a rock band that summer. The Byrds changed everything for me. Chris was always in the background...until the Younger Than Yesterday album. Then suddenly...BAM!! He exploded as a singer and songwriter. He never wanted to be in the spotlight. It has always been about the music. It's the reason so many great musicians respect him so highly.

Chris Hillman is a class act. Saw him with Roger, Marty and The Superlatives at the Ryman. What a night! Waiting outside before the show, there was an unbelievably huge swarm of birds that surrounded us. Never seen so many. I knew it was a good omen.

Thanks for a great interview. Marty's recollection of people taking photos of the Clarence White Tele on the Byrds Reunion tour is spot on. When I got back to my seat, my wife asked why everyone was taking pictures of the equipment on stage. I probably gave her a little more history than she wanted to hear.

In junior high school I was in a great band (Darien, Conn.) with 1965 guitars and amps. The golden era for Fender, Gibson, Ampeg, Gretch, Slingerland, Guild, ..,
Thank you Chris with the Byrds for planting our seeds 🎼🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶 ☮️👍✌️

I saw Chris with the original Byrds at the Cheetah in Chicago in 1967. Best live rock set I ever saw. Michael was drumming his ass off then kicked the whole set off the stage at the end of the song. Don’t know why but I heard Crosby got fired right afterwards
