I didn’t realise this episode was 21 years ago. I thought it was recent until I saw that Sues mother was born in 1915. I said “she looks great for 110 years old” 😅

I´m so glad these are getting uploaded here. Being in Denmark means I don´t really have access from anywhere else. So I really appreciate that I can watch the episodes, old and new, on this channel.

I had a great great grandfather who was supposed to be a station master. Thanks to a census return at just the right moment in time, we found where he met his wife ..... on his journey from Brampton in Cumberland to Consett in County Durham. His profession was Platelayer, and he boarded in a railway cottage at Newham Gate, Northumberland, which later became a station. Stories so easily get embelished for grandchildren! Platelayers maintained the track on a day to day basis in a time before the less labour intensive and much longer steel rails. Hard manual labour, which his sons followed him into. An honourable profession.

It would be nice to have such a well flushed out family tree, to have the assistance of historians and visit the locations of wherever our ancestors lived before coming to Canada. I love these episodes for all of the history and photos!

I tried to help Sue Johnston about 10 or 11 years ago in JL cheadle on the light bulb department as all the laws had just changed in the world of light bulbs. But she turned my help down but still stood studying the bulbs for a while . . it was all a bit baffling them about lumins etc. . I could have got her what she wanted in 2 seconds lolllllll

Consumption or TB death figures didn't improve until the pasteurisation of milk became law in 1917. So many preventable deaths - very sad.
