  I got saved there in Costa Mesa 1981, the Holy Spirit was moving, we studied the word of God, went out 7 days a week to do ministry, we believed the Bible. Pastor Chuck smiled through 3 services shook everyone’s hand, was not into money, was humble, he was very successful, great fruit!

  My uncle attended CC in Chino. He became a teacher there, and I bless his memory, for he took me in when I was having trouble in ways that is hard to explain. The main need I had was to surrender to Jesus Christ. I did so while I was there in his home. He was involved in many projects in his work as a GS-15, some of which were in electronics and that of missle warfare and the logistics of a world wide system of protection for the USA. He died of Leukemia, a hazardous thing as you volunteer for things not fully known for weapons systems, but all glory to God, he volunteered at Calvary Chapel in Chino area, I was born again in 1971 while staying with him. Today, I am a Pastor of a small fellowship, and I think it is an honor to remember Pastor Chuck and his family.

  Chuck Smith was hired by the board of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa in 1965. &nbsp;The board was always in charge of the church. &nbsp;The Moses Model was a term used by critics who saw Chuck in the pulpit and assumed that he made all the decisions. &nbsp;This was not so; the board met monthly and stayed in charge of the church. &nbsp;I just spoke last week to a man who was a board member off and on for 14 years. &nbsp;He remembers when candidates for the board spoke to the congregation and then a vote was taken to choose the board members. &nbsp;Chuck never influenced the people to vote for any candidate.

  Chuck was the glue holding things together. His voice alone commanded attention and respect. Once he passed, all the &quot;sons&quot; fought with each other over the spoils and position just like what happens in many families - sadly.

  Calvary Chapel and Pastor Chuck Smith was absolutely instrumental in my growth as a new believer beginning in February 1981. His Word For Today broadcasts along with his through the bible [on cassette tapes which I owned] set &nbsp;my feet firmly on solid biblical ground. I attended and graduated Calvary Chapel Bible School &nbsp;in West Covina, California which was Pastor Raul Ries church before moving to Diamond Bar. Though the Lord had other plans for my life, I a forever grateful for Chuck and the solid foundation for my faith which Calvary provided. Sure, Calvary had its problems and challenges. Which church doesn&apos;t? I moved on from Calvary around 2013. Yet, the solid, evangelical, fundamental, premillennial, pre-tribulation, dispensational doctrines of the faith I acquired have served me immensely and have helped to keep me grounded for over 45 years. &nbsp;Maranatha friends! Stay strong. Eyes up. Our Titus<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EC085bUN1I&amp;t=133">2:13</a> moment is any day now. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

  In my experience of the Calvary Chapel model has evolved more into each individual pastor being increasingly in charge of his church. We will see how this next generation fares..
