Post-911, My elementary school aged daughter had an Egyptian Muslim friend over for a play date. As soon as she walked in the door, she "confessed" that she was Muslim, but that she was not the kind of Muslim that would blow me up with a bomb. I thought my heart would break!! I quickly reassured her that I thought nothing of the sort, and that she was totally safe in our household. What is it in our world where a dictator and a handful of zealots can make such an innocent child feel the need to apologize for them?

I’m always suspicious when the religion can’t be questioned. It makes me think the leaders don’t actually believe it. Because if it was the Truth, everyone would believe it.

as a Gay person who grew up in a Muslim country, I can say that it's really frustrating watching people hating you without knowing your personality for example, they just follow a book and they are brain washed since DAY 1

I had a 12 year old student reach out to me and she cried in the library. She said her dad had marriage offers for her and her 11 year old sister. She said Miss, I just want to learn to read. 😭😭

I live in Argentina, not the most diverse place in the world, but not the least either. I only oce saw a woman covered head to toe. She was walking along a guy dressed on a tee-shirt and shorts, had a lot of tattoos, just like any other dude. It shocked me. This guy is living like a regular western dude, no oppression on him, and she was completely dressed with the most extreme wardrobe that Islam calls for. The dissonance didn't compute. This couple clearly didn't live under the rules, just her.
