  This is such a rare episode. At this point, the show was one hour and 45 minutes. For the first 15 minutes it was Ed and Skitch filling time. Johnny didn't do the first 15 minutes.

  Just amazing to get to see this precious show!  I was almost  2 years old and can only imagine my parents  watching this and maybe I was too❤. Thank you so much for saving this and sharing it with us. Wow...🎉

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=616YwDo65Uo&amp;t=124">2:04</a> There&apos;s 36-year old Tommy Newsome. &nbsp;He was one of only two who were members of The Tonight Show Band for the entire run of Johnny Carson, 1962-1992. &nbsp;The other is 34-year old Don Ashworth who is on the left end of the second row at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=616YwDo65Uo&amp;t=140">2:20</a>. &nbsp;Don is 94!

  Geez, I remember watching this live..well, pre-recorded on the West Coast. I was 12 years old. And yes, my parents let me stay up that late!:face-blue-wide-eyes:

  OMG! &nbsp;I was 14 and would have watched this with my parents live in the NY area. Ah, yes. &nbsp;Flipping back and forth between Guy Lombardo and Ben Grauer in the last couple of minutes of the old year. &nbsp;(Without a remote control. &nbsp;I&apos;d sit next on the floor next to the TV and click on the dial from Ch. 2 to Ch. 4 and back.) &nbsp;<br><br> I thought all of these tapes were lost. &nbsp;So glad some of the tapes were preserved by somebody. &nbsp;Yes, the openings with Ed and Skitch were kind of always weird. &nbsp;They lost the 15 minutes at the beginning because the local news expanded to 30 minutes. &nbsp;Interestingly, considering their banter, Ed survived with Carson for another 27 years. &nbsp;Skitch didn&apos;t. <br><br>I liked Johnny&apos;s set, which allowed guests to remain and interact for the full show. &nbsp;But the studio stage over all was so-o-o-o-o-o small! &nbsp;Loved the live commercials back in the day, especially for Alpo.<br><br>Not the greatest monologue of all time.

  The &quot;New Year&apos;s Eve&quot; Tonight Show from NY was always broadcast live. Johnny&apos;s only &quot;live&quot; Tonight Show. Sometimes Johnny would appear on the local channel 4 11PM newscast to heckel weatherman Frank Field before going to the Tonight Show studio.
