I love how in the flashbacks all the architecture and dress are Greco-Roman, and they're using scrolls instead of bound books, because it happen 1000 years ago.

A Key detail around the phototimelapse at 11:10. The time from Flamme's passing to meeting Himmel and the gang was 50 seconds representing 1000 years in time. The fast snap shots were of their 10 year journey and lasted 0.5 seconds(1/100th of the time passed), putting into perspective the passing of time from Frierens perspective in relation to their "mere 10 year journey".

In Frieren, being a mage isn't just something you do, it's who you are. I feel like that's why they see it as cowardly or unfair

Mage duels are normally when two mages square up, and test who has the greatest magical ability. One of the things that goes into it is deciding how aggressive to be, if your opponent has less mana than you, its possible to just play defensively and let them exhaust themselves and then you win once they can no longer cast spells. Lugner tried to do that against Fern but realized it wasn't working. Frieren and Flamme's method of pretending to be weak is seen as dishonourable because it relies on tricking your opponent to letting their guard down, rather than a contest of pure skill. Demons are especially prone to it, because they actually want to fight fair. Demons have so much pride in their magic they genuinely want to prove they can beat any other mage straight up. It's why when Lugner realized Fern was a worth mage, he declared he would fight her with all his might rather than toying with her.

The mic drop moment at the end there is just the most epic takedown ever.

Among the huge number of awesome things that happen and get revealed in this episode, we also get to see an interesting quirk of Frieren's: she loves to give demons a taste of their own medicine. She killed legendary Mage Quaal with his own spell, cut off Draht's limbs the way he liked to remove heads, and now forces serial beheader Aura to cut off her own head.

I completely agree that the lack of a grandiose fight made this episode so much more awesome - I would normally expect an arc boss to be a mega combat episode - but I loved the way they handled this.

Quick little detail: The flashback after Flammes death lasts 50 seconds and represents 1000 years. The 0.5s of the heroes party represents 10 years. It show us visually how Frieren perceives time.

The POV from Aura's severed head of Frieren's slow-walking away was just too delicious XD
(Honestly, how the writers constantly flip the anime tropes is so satisfying. Such good storytelling)

The government doesn't want you to know this Flamme, but the elves in the forest are free. I have 19 elf apprentices at home, Flamme.
