I did the same thing with 2x1 self adhesive wire conduits. 6ft lengths cut to a tiny bit wider and pushed down precisely to the bottom back shelf. I bought black/Brown.. but the conduit is white… simply quick drying black spray paint and your done. They now look like they belong and work a treat. Good luck with your channel.

That looks absolutely ingenious. The great thing is no permanent damage to the shelving (screw holes or anything). If you change your mind for any reason you can peel off the foam, clean up any remaining adhesive with a dab of white spirit and you're good to go. You've got me thinking about my own floor-standing shelves that won't go flush to the wall because of protruding skirting boards at the bottom. A strip of that foam around the back edges would prevent dust from falling  / gathering behind them. I'm off to buy shares in draught excluder tape!! The Audiophile stuff from the audio boutique, not the dollar store type as I'm told it sounds better. Maybe there'll now be a debate about heavy-weight tape same versus standard as with 180g vinyl or 45rpm pressings!! 😆😅 Enjoy your evening my friend and thanks once again

Best method that I could think of that will last forever and is cheap is to get lengths of 1X2 inch wooden pieces and screw them on to the rear of the cabinet sections. You can go to home depot and they will cut them to length for you, cheap and works great. You can get fancy and paint them black too but you can't see them once the albums are in place. Another great tweak is to put lighting underneath each section so you can easily see the titles. I bought mine at Amazon, rechargeable, so no worries with batteries. They are very low profile so you can't really see them either and the albums clear the lights too. They can be screwed in place or they can be mounted using the magnets they supply.

That foam is not going to last and will just make a mess.  And what's with the cliché look?

1x2 piece of wood and just velcro it diqn.  That stripping is not going to hold.
