  I think the “Buy it nice or buy it twice” idea should only apply to non-food items you use a lot. Don’t be afraid to buy a cheaper option if you are just trying it out to see if you really use it. If you use it a lot and it breaks, then you know you can get a better, more expensive option because you know you will use it.

  It sucks to see people talk about clothing in terms of ‘will this last me 2 years?’ Because that’s such a short amount of time.<br>I do understand the point of ‘will I LIKE this in 2 years?’—I think that’s good to consider. But having to ask whether something will last even 2 years? 😭 Our clothes should last so much longer than that, I hate what fast fashion has done

  What makes me the angriest about books and booktok is that everyone seems to have completely forgotten about freaking libraries! They still exist! But if people keep buying books just for the aesthetic and just because they want to have the latest viral books, it not only encourages overconsumption but it will also lead to the disappearance of libraries.

  When my mom is tempted to buy something she doesn’t need she says to herself “it’s not going to change my life.”<br><br>It really puts things into perspective for me and I’m adopting that phrase for myself.

  the coffee thing kinda shocked me, bc living in italy, having 2/3 coffees a day is pretty standard, but also having a coffee is a moment that you share with other people, family, friends, coworkers, etc. im always down for a coffee together with someone at a coffee shop. then i remember that coffee here costs like $1.50 and not $5+ like in the states and everything makes wayyyyy more sense lol

  Growing up we didn’t have much money, and my dad had a similar saying to “buy it nice or buy it twice” but he would say “poor people can’t afford to buy things twice, so it’s better to have less knowing you’ll be able to rely on what you have than to wonder if your things will work when you need them to”. This applied to our shoes, clothes, etc, but buying quality things didn’t always mean buying the most expensive or trendy brands, often times it was shopping sales at the factories of denim and shoes so we’d get discounted prices on our goods, shopping from small shops that my parents knew sourced their items from good distributors at a discount and because we were repeat costumers we’d get lower prices. I apply the same concept to my life now, even though I moved across the world and we are the perfect middle class family, and it’s saved us money overtime. My daddy knew what he was talking about and I’m so thankful for him.

  Looking into materials is so interesting. For me the basics are: something sustianable is good. more cotton-&gt; more good. polyester bad. recycled polyester is better, but still not so good. linen is good. natural fibers are good. <br>and if you shop in person it can be interesting to look at the seams and if they are already ripping apart it&apos;s bad.<br><br>oh and second hand for the win!!

  for me, a big one is buying clothes at thrift stores because i actually like them, not because they&apos;re cheap and they fit me. <br><br>as a bigger girl who&apos;s losing weight, i have this scarcity mindset of &quot;oh well it fits me so i have to get it, when am i gonna find something else that fits me?&quot; and i know its a bad habit, and i have heard of people in my situation thinking like this as well. i do not need something just because it fits!!!

  Let’s bring back CDs and DVDs instead of streaming 🙌 I don’t deny the convenience of streaming both, and in my own experience it has given me a chance to explore, discover and enjoy music, movies and shows I may not have before (sometimes it is my only access to certain media, like foreign films and such), but honestly I miss how you could just pop in a DVD either that you’ve bought and it’s yours forever (so long as it doesn’t break lol) or borrowed from the library and you just don’t have to worry about ads period. It also makes the movies you watch and music you listen to feel so much more intentional.

  I used to read so much ao3 in bed before going to sleep, but I&apos;m trying not to have my phone in my bed anymore, and i miss my ao3 time sooooo much 😢
