  Everything about Mount Everest breaks my heart. I was born the year Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay summited, and growing up I was fascinated by it.  I had a dream, never achieved, to climb it and that’s probably best for the mountain and the environment.  How can so many people have so little regard for something so spiritual?  Until cancer, I did a fair bit of mountaineering at my humble level, always following the “leave no trace” principle. Nature is magnificent, but we need to prioritize it first and our own experience second.  There are many places my wife and I would have really enjoyed visiting, but they are “loved” too much.  Sometimes the best thing we can do is stay home.🌿

  I was 10 years old in 1963 when the first American team summited Mt. Everest. I remember the articles and photos in National Geographic, Look, and Life magazine. I was hooked! I would have given anything to be a part of that adventure. Today Everest and most of the Nepalese Himalaya has been debased to the level of tourist traps. The entire experience of today’s guided “climbs” is not the experience I want. You couldn’t pay me to go to Everest base camp today.

  According to new law you need to climb a  7000  mountain before everest and permit getting more strict
