  I play tennis recreationally and competitively and I have never met a tennis player that let anyone beat them. I could not imagine someone even with their values would hold back from winning. In the same way the girl wanted to pay the bill when you were out and the same way she competes, she would also want to win and not give it away because she didn’t think it was fair to beat someone. That would be false humility. Tennis is too brutal and too expensive to give away a win. Even Serena had to beat her sister, her best friend, the person that she wanted to be like. Why would anyone else allow anyone that they don’t share this type of bond with to beat them. It’s just not realistic, no one is so kind that they lose for fairness. It’s not fair for me to win is absurd.
