Van Pelt represents Alan's father, hence him being played by the same actor. He is representative of Alan's fear of his father and lack of self esteem which is why he is incapable of facing Van Pelt.

I love this movie! I find it so smart as well to have the same actor for the father & the hunter (just like in Peter Pan)! 🔥<br>RIP Robin Williams, you were an icon 🥹🙏🏼

Alan Parish was the coolest character to me growing up. He was a kid who survived in a monstrous pre-historic forest by himself for 26 years! What a madlad!

My favorite line in this movie is in the scene where the plant comes out of the woods grabs Carl's patrol car then crushes it before dragging it into the woods and Carl yells Fine!!!Take it!!!!
