I grew up with Eva.  She was and is the real deal.   I am so grateful her voice has been heard.

She is unlike a lot of today's artists.  She CAN belt, but she doesn't always, she interprets the lyrics with tone, volume, and phrasing.

By the way, you picked up on her cover of "Fields of Gold" by Sting. Sting was very proprietary about that song. He did not like it when people covered it. Until Eva. Eva's version brought tears to his eyes.  He said "That is what I always imagined for that song"  When he found out she had passed he bought tons of her cds and sent them to many of his contacts within the industry to her promote her.  Real talent knows real talent.  Fields of Gold is a super place to start.  But sooooo many others.  Songbird, Autumn Leaves, People Get Ready, Danny Boy, Stormy Monday, Bridge Over Troubled Water, It's a Wonderful World, Tall Trees in Georgia, Tennessee Waltz, Chain of Fools, Time After Time and so many others. Congrats, you are now hooked!

Eva, her music, and her personal story are a package. If you don't find tears while listening to this beautiful songbird, you may be broken.

Eva's renditions of "Fields if Gold" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" are just stunning.

She died from Melanoma skin cancer. She had surgery to remove it from her back a few years earlier but it came back. I lost a colleague from work with the same disease and its very aggressive when it spreads and does not respond well to any treatments. I had so many tears watching this. Her voice was that of an angel. So sad.

Two videos about Eva Cassidy on YouTube:  “Eva Cassidy:  One night that Changed Everything “ and “Eva Cassidy: Timeless Voice”.  They are both really good.

Figure skater, Michelle Kwan, skated her Olympic exhibition program to Eva's version of Fields of Gold in 2002. It was a bittersweet performance, as Michelle had been the favorite to win gold, but ended up with the bronze. She went on to skate the program on tour with Stars on Ice, bringing more visibility to Eva's music. When Songbird sold 500K copies, Eva's parents and the record company presented Michelle with the gold record. If you ever decide to react to Fields of Gold, it might be worth using the video of Michelle's performance from the Olympics. Very moving.

First time I ever heard her it was “Fields of Gold” and it was angelic.  To my dismay, she was already gone.  😢. Glad you appreciate her too

Probably the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. I always loved Karen Carpenter as a singer; but Eva Cassidy was once in a lifetime.
