  Ageism. We live in a culture that looks at aging as disappearing, lacking in attractiveness. Sadly, we don't admire aging as a sign of living!!!! Grace, inner wisdom, self acceptance.

  I was a Spinning instructor in Parkland, FL - a wealthy community. I was on a stage teaching and looked at the class of 30 women on bikes and had a Stepford Wives moment. All the women had the same face - lips, brows, cheeks, hair extensions. It was a very uncanny valley moment. The worst thing was, taken individually, each feature was picture perfect, but looked at collectively, their faces didn't even look real. They'd lost their humanity, individuality, and unique beauty.

  I was highly considering a nose job and so I made a consultation at a plastic surgery office. I remember walking in and all the receptionists, nurses, and other workers all looked the same. They all had the same petite nose. The only distinguishable feature was the difference in hair styles. But I was the only one who looked different and stood out. I walked right out of the office and am grateful for looking different.

  I remember once my dad told me 'When I see your mom aging and getting wrinkles, I don't see anything ugly, I see the years we've spent together.', and that was the most heart-warming thing I've ever heard. Love yourself, surround yourself with people who will love your soul, not just your face. It's fine to follow health advice and enhance yourself in small doses, but completely denying your genes that mom and dad gave you will leave a difficult legacy to follow for the next generations.

  I remember when Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing got her nose done - went from a unique look to just another Hollywood pretty face in the crowd.

  I look at old photos of relatives and can see which of them I resemble; that may soon be a thing of the past for today's generation.

  I think the key word is CHARM. Uniqueness is charming. All the Instagram girls are completely lacking charm. You have no interest in their personality. Someone who is charming draws you in and you want to know them.

  I have a beauty mark on the right side of my face. It’s the same size as Cindy Crawford’s (that’s the only person I can think of that has one of similar size) I once thought out loudly of having it removed, my 7 year old instantly started bawling! I asked her what’s wrong? She said “But then you won’t look like my mommy anymore!!” I never thought about changing my appearance that drastically again. Embrace your imperfections, they make you perfect to the ones who love you unconditionally.

  Not everyone is chasing this uniform look.  Many are. Same face same hair same nails and clothes. It's weird. When I was a kid, people tried to be unique.
