I was a background extra on the movie 'Sgt. Bilko.' During a lull in filming, Phil Hartman came over to a group of us and chatted us up for a few minutes. Nice guy.

Phil Hartman was one of the greatest improv comedians to have ever lived.  He was so much fun to watch whether in an interview, TV or live SNL.  This man was an amazing writer and just a great family man as well.  So sad his life was cut short in the manner it was.

People talk about best this and best that -- all I can say is Phil Hartman consistently made me laugh harder than anybody who has ever been on SNL.

I don't mean this to be in any way disrespectful, but Phil Harthman's voice and manner of speech is simply the funniest thing I've ever heard. Maybe it's because I watched so much Simpsons (and News Radio) as a kid but I can't help but smile whenever he says anything.

I've been hearing about Phil Hartman for years now from various people and how he was a genius and all that. Today was my first time actually thinking "you know what? I think it's time to look him up". Didn't even look familiar, but from the get go his cadence, speed, and comic mind really made me be so attentive to what's happening and soak it in. I go into the comments, and I see people saying "what a tragedy" "lost too soon" "I still can't process his loss". Me not knowing anything about him, I google him. Ok death this year, spouse this, kids that... wait, murder-suicide by his deranged wife. I couldn't believe it!! 49 years old?! so young! he was still working and still very much relevant and very much very good! for all these years i had no idea, but now i know...this is truly one of the great tragedies of the comedy world, and to some..it was biggest. RIP Phil <3
