My late father was a joiner and pattern maker and while he would have enjoyed the idea and execution of this amazing artefact he would, of course, be demanding that I take notes to tell you all the things you did wrong and have me add those notes to the comments (typical of a West of Scotland man). Of course I would have agreed, shown him the text being submitted, then come back and edited the whole lot to read, "Great work! Sure it'll serve your grandad for years! Nice to see some proper woodwork these days. All the best, Joe."<br>Somehow this video had me hearing Joe in my head going, "Widnae dae it like that, ken! But he's daein' weel."

Beautiful work. Being disabled myself, I know the value of this feature. It’s very frustrating and disheartening to drop something on the floor and know it’s going to be there forever because I can’t bend over to pick it up.<br>The only thing I would do differently is not glue the handle together so the internal workings could be accessed for maintenance.

Am 79 years old and unfortunately have been required to use a cane for the past 30 years. Never seen a cane of such beauty. Your grandfather is a lucky man.

This is what I would call a true and beautiful labor of love. Best wishes to you and your family.

I'm sure your granddad will cherish this cane for the rest of his life. The work and skill that you put into it is a reflection of your feelings for him.

Even if your Grandfather is not yet ready to start using a cane I'm sure he will still appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making it.

Being disabled myself I know your grandfather will really appreciate this cane. If you ever decide to make more like this I would be first in line. Awesome work!

Can I just say I love videos like this with actual voiceover? I love hearing what the craftsman has to say about what they're doing

I hope to someday be the sort of grandfather that inspires one of my grandchildren to such beautiful artwork. At 56, I've had to start keeping a cane or walking stick handy for those rare times that a hip or knee or my back decides to act up. I'm sure those times will change from rare to uncommon to occasional to routine as life progresses, and I know I'll want something that not only can I depend on to support me but something that was made just for me by someone who wants to be there to support me when I need it. Well done, sir.
