I'm so happy to see these getting the love they deserve! My wife is so happy to get back the space in the shed!

One of my jobs in my early days was working at viracon in faribault, mn where i would polish the faces of the bare CRTs after they were manufactured and before they were installed in monitors. It was very dirty physical work involving big angle grinders with polishing pads and sloppy muddy polishing compound. So it is definitely possible to polish the CRTs, it's part of the whole manufacturing process

I for one, enjoy your CRT videos. They're always helpful and informative in maintaining my own.

The video thumbnail looks like a picture you'd find in a magazine advertisement for a new computer monitor line in the mid-80s.

After using it for 30 years, my 1084’s flyback gave up just like this a couple of years ago.
Luckily I was able to find the same supplier and picked up an extra to cover my other 1084S as well, and it’s functional again.
That 1084 lasted through my teens, was our only TV when I was dating my wife and has been my retro monitor for gaming for a number of years.
It’ll probably be an inheritance for my kid and keep going for another 30+ years, 😊

I've tried removing scratches from my 1084, starting with 2000 grit wet sandpaper and then a lot of buffing with a buffing wheel and glass polishing compound. The sandpaper removed some of the scratches and the buffing brought back the smooth finish. So it did work, although it's not a quick process.
